Recently my dearest friend of 49 years took a leap of faith and moved to the country. I have had a hard time accepting she is no longer around the corner to pop in every couple of weeks and to be honest I was quite devastated. This past weekend we finally made the trip to visit the 250 acres she now calls home. They are yet to build, but the land is vast and beautiful. We camped out and spent a lot of time walking, riding motorbikes, and driving around exploring. It was blowing a gale, rainy, cold and miserable but it didn’t stop us making yet another precious collection of memories with our families. I finally realised how selfish I had been. I suddenly saw what she had always dreamed of. I painted this scene from memory of the wide open spaces we rode across. “Just follow the flattened grass” they said. And so I did.
