The rocks‚ sea and sand are painted in broad‚ expressionistic brushstrokes. The many little figures are the result of finer brushwork. Many colours and tones are used for the skin tones‚ bathing suits‚ towels‚ bags‚ etc.

The scene is both a Utopia - endless fun and leisure - and a dystopia - the absence of a sun‚ the strange tower‚ the pensive woman in the lower left. What is this place? What lengths have these people gone to achieve their lifestyles?
