Acrylic on canvas, stretched and ready to hang.
Signed on the back.
This is the largest 'Monopoly Policeman' I've painted so far. The large size provided more room for interesting and detailed brushwork and subtle changes of tones in the 'negative space' of the background.
I usually add text to these paintings - song lyrics, or quotes from books and movies. The more I worked on and stared at this painting, the more I felt as though it could stand on its own, without any words. This one is more about the paint than the concept, but in my opinion that also gives it a bit of poignancy. It's sitting right on the edge of pop art and 'proper' abstract art.
The background is a combination of minty greens, blues and greys. The 'black' of the outlines is actually a very warm, dark brown with a hint of red. The surface is textured and has a gloss varnish finish. The sides of the canvas are painted in the same warm black, and it is ready to hang without needing to be framed.
A painterly, pop culture icon that will look great in any room.
