Large, long painting in my Unpopular Penguins series, showing the spines of (distorted) Penguin paperback books, and a bronze Minerva owl, as arranged on a bookshelf.
The canvas is a heavy, high quality canvas from the Stretch Canvas Company in Byron Bay. The canvas has painted sides, and is ready to hang without needing to be framed. It's a large painting - 171cm long - so would be a good feature piece in a study or library, considering the imagery. The owl represents wisdom, and would of course be at home amongst books.
The painting has an impasto surface - the paint has been built up in many layers, with drips and spatters. The chaos and energy of the application are a nice counterpoint to the clean design of the original books.
The perfect piece of art for those who value books!
