Artwork Description

Small Unpopular Penguin on paper, framed and ready to hang (or sit on a shelf!)

The artwork is on heavy watercolour paper, and is constructed from pages of actual Penguin books (I've used old or misbound books, concerned book lovers), with paint, charcoal, pencil and linoprinting.

The frame is pale timber, with Perspex. It has a bracket on the back for wall hanging, and a fold-out stand. The artwork can easily be removed to be re-framed if desired. The visible artwork is 12cm x 12cm, the total size of the frame is 25cm x 25cm.

I've been painting these 'Unpopular Penguins' for almost three years now, and they have been selling steadily across Australia and internationally. They've been shown in some of Australia's finest commercial galleries, been included in the Gallipoli, Gosford and ANL Maritime Art Prizes, and drew praise from former director of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Edmund Capon, who said "an evocative imagining of the familiar Penguin Paperback...it was a painting we all liked very much for its rich texture, its sense of memory and its sort of nostalgic humour"

Enjoy!
