Artwork Description

A combination of realism and impressionism on a 92cm square panel. The beautiful flowers last on the Poinciana trees for only a month or two and are not always there each year. It was a great opportunity to capture their brilliance, slightly oversize, to allow them to be on display year-round on the owner's wall.

Artist Bio

As an artist, my main interest has been to capture outdoor images with influence from Australian Impressionism and the style of artists who were involved in the group known as the Heidelberg School in the early 1900s. I was a late starter but over the past 10 years, I have enjoyed the challenges of landscapes, portraiture, doing paintings of fish and wildlife, occasionally doing abstract work and some still life. Much of my art has a story line about why I was inspired by the subject. While painting mainly with acrylics, I have also used other mediums including oil paints, oil crayons, polyurethane with colour added, pencil and charcoal and on occasions, I have used collage in my artworks.

In 2014, I joined Royal Queensland Art Society, Gold Coast branch, and I have participated in many of its activities including art classes. I exhibit selected works of mine on a regular basis in its Broadbeach Art Gallery and at some other locations around Brisbane and the Gold Coast where I have displayed examples of the wide variety of my interests in creating art. A number of my works have received awards from independent judges and some of my paintings I had displayed have found new owners in Australia and overseas. I hope to continue to improve in the works I produce and the enjoyment they give to me as well as other people.
