About

I most prefer the artistic medium of printmaking (linoleum prints and screenprints) and I paint on canvas with acrylic (paint, impasto gel and aerosol). Much of my work comes directly from what I observe in the world around me, especially when I am on country for cultural activities, sites work, bushwalking and fishing. I am greatly influenced by my family and community and my Aboriginal and Australian heritage, connection to country and language (Gamilaraay). www.mawu-gi.com.au www.facebook.com/mawugi/ www.instagram.com/mawugi

Muraay (Gamilaraay for sulphur crested cockatoo). This naïve/primitivist muraay is heavily textured in impasto gel. It depicts a Gamilaraay muraay showing off for the viewer. It has been completed as part of my ‘Bright and Deadly’ series of paintings and prints. Anyone who has ever camped on a river bank knows how noisy they are. They are especially annoying in the morning when you are trying to sleep or late afternoon when you are fishing and want some peace and quiet. They also have a tendency to scare off animals when you are hunting and give away your position. They circle around above squawking.
