Coastal Banksia

This work is part of a collection using elements of detail and a limited palette. The beautiful coastal Banksia in an old pint milk bottle with a vintage sugar dish reminds me of my Grandma. The seed pod is scratched out of the paint. Worked up from a wet graphite drawing and layered with paint and medium to give a textured effect.

Bronwen is a Melbourne based artist. She paints mainly with oil, sometimes adding a cold wax medium. Her paintings are developed from observational sketches made on site and then revisited in the studio. Whilst remaining largely figurative, she pays homage to contemporary art theory. Subjects include landscape, figure, still life and animals studies.
