"Waiting All Our Lives" is an oil on canvas with a varnished finish. This painting is unframed.
This piece is apart of my "Vulnerability" series. This painting relates to another painting called "Come Lay With Me" which explores the personal relationship we have with partners, trust and our beds, and the vulnerability we experience in these aspects of our lives.
Similarly, "Waiting All Our Lives" depicts a nude figure lying on her bed. However, this painting explores feelings of loneliness and solitude. Loneliness is again a feeling I wanted to capture as this is often a painful and embarrassing feeling, that humans all have. This lady is depicted as content and comfortable in her skin, showing her ability to be be still and vulnerable with herself and only herself. The background is dark and closing in on her figure creating a sense that this experience is just for her. Her body is full and placed in a way that is not to impress anybody else but herself. Having the ability to be lonely and comfortable is a very personal and loving act. Acknowledging this as a valid feeling and being still with that, is the vulnerability i wanted to explore. Allowing ourselves to validate our own emotions may take us to an uncomfortable state. However, if people don't allow themselves to be comfortable with our thoughts, we could be "waiting all our lives" to find inner contentment.
