Artwork Description

Karrak Bakkunger is the indigenous name for the boisterous Red Tailed Cockatoos in our region. This one was near our home, a young female hiding from me behind a Sheoak tree. Her parents were nearby. These beautiful birds are long lived, from 25 to 50 years and live in family groups.

Artist Bio

Nature: Bring it home.

Catherine Higham is a West Australian artist, who lives on a small coastal farm near Manypeaks in Western Australia. The artist has a diverse practice that began with formal studies in painting, but now includes sculpture, assemblage and digital media.

Paintings connect with the unique environment surrounding the artists studio that is between Waychinicup National Park and Two Peoples Bay Nature Reserve, on the South Coast of Western Australia. The inspiring location is renown internationally for its biodiversity, and habitat for endangered species.

Catherine has returned to the art studio after a period of study. Current work contrasts quick 'Insta' moments, with the slow moves of acrylic painting. These small works familiarise the artist with subject and materials, with the intention of working on larger pieces in future.

Catherine exhibits extensively, and has work held in private and corporate collections.
