Millstream

'Millstream' represents a visual investigation of the Australian landscape through a particular aesthetic perspective. It is part of a new series of works inspired by the elegance of Chinese and Japanese traditional painting with their appreciation of ‘ma’ or negative space. My work references Chinoiserie on Delftware which informs the style and colours of this painting with a particular focus on the linear and graphic beauty of our bushland.

ARTIST STATEMENT Cathy is an award winning artist based in Melbourne. Her work ranges from realism, with a high level of detail, to more abstract and semi abstract pieces. The use of light has a pivotal role in creating impact and mood in her realistic landscapes and portraits. In her abstracts, she often paints intuitively, incorporating dramatic movement and organic forms to describe unseen places of beauty and mystery.
