Acrylic on wood
Signed on the back.
I had the idea many years ago to go around Sydney and photograph some of the old suburban cinema buildings that still remained standing (though they hadn’t been cinemas for a long time). A few of these were video stores, themselves on their last legs. In this textured painting I wanted to show some of the history of these places – each phase both created by and destroyed by new technology and trends. Also, I wanted to convey a quiet hope that the next chapter does not involve demolition.
Matt varnish and sides painted as seen in the additional photo.
