'The Auslan Movement' is about our Deaf Culture and sign-language, Auslan and the spatial movements of Auslan through creation of paper sculpture shapes.
I created sculptures while signing a word when holding wetted paper then the sculpture is painted in white paint.
Conversations of personal stories on experiences growing up Deaf, the events and the exclusion of access to the Deaf community. The pieces are white on a white wall, meaning of our hands melding into one picture in a room, reminiscent of our Deaf culture.
The Auslan sculpture pieces gives viewers a new perspective of our language and Deaf culture. I want people question and think about our language. Many of us Deaf people live in a world that is inaccessible to us. I want to raise more awareness on this and bring ideas to viewers about our culture and the way we live.
