‘See Me’ is the way I captured this beautiful little soul as she stood a moment while the dancing and singing was going on around her. A vision of disbelief and orange hand-sewn feathers cover her, head to feet, in such detail and distant thought, revealing that one day she knew. And she becomes one elder in generations to come among current elders.
‘Mardi-gras Indian’ is one of a series of eight photographs shot in New Orleans during Mardi-gras. ‘Indian’s’ traditional tribe of native Americans spends all year sewing magnificent costumes, then comes together again to rejoice with laughter, dancing and powerful spirit. This display shows respects for the elders who flaunt their strength like peacock feathers spread, as they march through the streets. From late1800s to this day the tradition still lives.
