Artwork Description

Oil on canvas, stretched and ready to hang.

Signed on the back.

Inspired by a visit to Port Arthur in Tasmania and influenced by the Swiss Symbolist painter Arnold Bocklin. Bocklin's 'Isle of the Dead' paintings are probably his best known works. The small island visible from the Part Arthur Historic site is the final resting place for convicts, officers, and women and children in the 1800's.
