Portrait of a woman in theatrical makeup in a long white wig and white kimono with embroidered cranes and flowers. She is set against a background of traditional Japanese motifs picked out in gold on black. A small collection of makeup brushes rests before her and she is applying black eyeliner with a pen. The rest of her makeup is pale with glittering red tiger stripes on her cheeks and forehead and a red cross shape in the centre of her forehead. Her eyes are a clear blue and her lips a very dark red, almost black.
