Artwork Description

The Retro series continues with VHS blank tapes vol.1 - Retro series

Back in the 80's blank video tapes were a total game changer. Making a collection of favourite music videos, a favourite tv series or your favourite movies. We all had em and loved them. No cable tv, definitely no streaming services.

Instant 80's nostalgia and I'm sure fond memories.

I paint these on wood panel with a backing frame purely as I prefer it to canvas which can often flex. Painting on wood goes back to the masters and it suits oils better. Secured with picture hanging fixings and wire, it's ready to hang and will be safe an secure.

This series began a while ago with a painting of an original Polaroid camera. The 80's may now be retro, but for some of us, it was simply called childhood. Polaroids, Walkmans, Vinyl, VHS and cassette tapes.

Definitely a trip down memory lane. If you're old enough to remember sitting by the tv waiting for your favourite songs or shows.

VHS is is in a broken realist style or abstract realism. Painted in several layers over the course of several days. It is eye catching and really pops! This one has some very cool texture as well.

● This painting is on sealed MDF with it's own backing like a bought canvas. UV varnished in satin.
● Ready to hang.
● Comes with Certificate of authenticity.

Artist Bio

In order to progress as an artist I narrowed my focus to painting still lifes. I spent at least a year on this and learned to develop new techniques and interesting approaching to creating my style. I've been fortunate that many collectors around the world added those still lifes to their collections. As an artist I like new challenges so although I still enjoy painting still lifes, my Work has now shifted to abstract work. Often taking inspiration from the Australian landscape and now using my love of music to inspire me. I strive to build a collection of artworks that consistently reach levels of high quality and originality, as I continue to forge my own artistic style. Experimenting with colour, emotion, light, shade, value and form thru works that are abstract creations thru to works based on realism. Ideally a combination of both. My artistic mindset is mostly derived from the teachings and philosophies of past masters. Henri Matisse for example, “ What I dream of is an art of balance, of purity and serenity, devoid of troubling or depressing subject matter, an art which could be for every mental worker, for the businessman as well as the man of letters, for example, a soothing, calming influence on the mind, something like a good armchair which provides relaxation from physical fatigue”. From this, my focus at it’s simplest is to create works of beauty. To engage with the viewer, to remind them of a time, place or memory, but not to tell them what that is, for them only to see it themselves is my highest reward. To reconnect them with something they carry within that they can associate with a visual in the form of an artwork. I have sold artworks from my residence in Perth Western Australia to locations locally, nationally and internationally.
