Cathedral Floor

This painting is on a stretcher frame and is ready to hang - no need for an external frame. ‘Cathedral Floor’ is from the ‘Fragment’ series. This series is best described as vignettes or impressions of visits to different places and cultures - colours, patterns, structures, floors. The best that can be achieved by the visitor is really only a fleeting memory or fragment of the whole.
This is a painting of a section of the floor in an English cathedral. I was interested in the hand cut tiles and the way they were placed slightly out of alignment. I was also interested in the discolouration and ‘wear’ of the tiles - imagining all the feet that have walked on them over the years.
‘Cathedral Floor’ is a quiet painting suitable for a lounge room, bedroom or study. It is ready to hang as is.

'Fragments' is best described as painted vignettes of visits to other places; colours, patterns - fragments of the whole experience, as it is difficult to appreciate in full. Focusing on a small section of the whole is doable and fun. Lately, the concept of ‘Fragments’ has expanded to include appreciation of the beauty and mindfulness of the ‘everyday’ fragments which enrich our lives.
