When the end of day is near, just before the sun sets, there is a magical moment - the golden hour. The sun sitting so low in the sky creates a warm glowy effect creating a beautiful softness where everything appears magical. This painting is a depiction of the golden hour as it falls upon the Melbourne cityscape viewed from Albert Park Lake.
The buildings are reflected into the water creating a somewhat distorted mirror image. The light hitting the top of the Eureka Sky Deck and iconic Australia 108 Tower's starburst has been highlighted using imitation gold leaf.
I love capturing the play of light and reflection in my work. No sky or sunset is repeated. The hues, saturation and tones of the evening make the city of Melbourne appear so magical and renewed each and everyday.
