Inspired by history and the story depicted on 'The Bayeux Tapestry', 1066.
The original tapestry is one of the worlds most famous pieces of Medieval Art. It its 70 metres long and tells the story of the Norman Conquest of England, when William The Conqueror invaded and defeated King Harold Godwinson.
I love to depict women in history and here I have placed the central female figure lying down. She is in sharp contrast to the story of battle that is going on in the back ground. She is about to dip her hand in the flowing river that she is lying next too. The river in shimmering with gold which can make us wonder if it has healing or magical properties. Will a sip from the river have the woman being able to see the future or will a sip of the rivers water heal someones head and heart.
Superstition played and important role in Medieval history and I have drawn on this fact for inspiration for this painting.
This painting is framed in a natural timber, the colour of the timber complements the skin colour of the figure.
