Emilie Heurtevent, born in Paris in 1986, is a Melbourne-based artist with a background in art history and calligraphy. Her practice explores themes of landscape and nature's cycles of decay and renewal, inspired by the constant transformation and energy of the natural world. Emilie often explores water and atmospheric elements, using dark, stormy landscapes to evoke both life and destruction. Her work features dramatic contrasts of light and dark, creating abstracted geographies that reference natural phenomena like glaciers, rivers, and mountains. Working in black and white, ochre, and ink, she layers spontaneous marks, creating gestural, expressive abstractions.
Winner of the Milburn Art Prize for The Abyss #12, Emilie created a new world of infinite space, inviting contemplation and transformation. Her art has been exhibited globally, including solo shows mainly in Melbourne, London, and Adelaide.
