I created this artwork because I wanted to do another photo-realism piece using Copic markers, like my artwork "Brew". This is the original artwork, unframed.
I chose to draw a Dr. Marten boot because they are an iconic shoe, and I love the way they look with the reflections on the shiny leather. Also, because I had owned a pair of black Docs when I was 15. When I was 18 I lost one of them at a party in Melbourne, so this artwork is, in part, a homage to my lost boot.
The paper dimensions are 76 x 56cm. You can see in the photos how much of the paper is covered by the drawing. If you look closely at the paper there are very faint marks from where I had drawn grid lines. They are hard to see though, so don't detract from the drawing. There is also a very small indentation in the paper in the black section of the boot which you can faintly see in the photos.
It is hard to see in the photos, but there is a light grey area of shadow under the boot which extends to my signature. The paper is not pure white, it's cream coloured and lightly textured. In the styled scene, the artwork is not 100% to scale, but it is pretty close. Note that the artwork is unframed, unlike shown in the scene.
Reference photo by me of my partner's boot.
