Artwork Description

Inspired by the quiet majesty of reef life, this piece captures a fleeting moment beneath the surface where strength and serenity coexist. The shark moves through a luminous underwater world alive with shifting light, vibrant coral, and layered shadows, evoking both mystery and harmony. Rather than portraying the ocean as wild or threatening, the work invites a sense of reverence for its beauty — a dreamlike glimpse into a hidden realm where movement, colour, and stillness meet.

The vivid contrasts and energetic brushwork reflect the ocean’s constant transformation, where every current reveals new colour, texture, and life. The hammerhead becomes a symbol of quiet confidence, moving effortlessly through a world that feels both ancient and otherworldly. Through this scene, I wanted to capture the sense of wonder found in places still largely unseen — a reminder of the fragile, extraordinary ecosystems that exist beyond our everyday view.

Artist Bio

Eugene’s practice reflects a lifelong affinity with nature. It’s a contemporary exploration of the wildlife in which figurative perfection dissolves into the evocation of mysterious spaces and utilizes spontaneous yet equitable range of hue. “Nature is the source of my inspiration. Everything I manifest and render is focused on harmony within her laws.”
Eugene uses most vivid colors in a vigorous application to express the uniqueness and define representation of wildlife attractiveness. Extensive knowledge of mixed media enables him to develop a most distinctive and recognizable manner that bridges the gap between the traditional academic approach and modern abstract art. His creations are not limited to any one subject or medium and demonstrate his outstanding perception and ability to focus on capturing details. “Since I started drawing I have become increasingly interested in understanding the painter’s two most fundamental tools: light and color.”
Eugene Rubuls is a widely recognized international artist who has successfully exhibited in art shows and galleries around Europe, Asia and Australia. His commissioned art work can be found in private collections all around the world.
