Artwork Description

Glow is structured through a gradual passage from density into openness. In the lower register, the reef gathers as a richly worked accumulation of colour, gesture and material—less a collection of separate forms than a living terrain shaped by growth, pressure and time. As the composition rises, this density begins to loosen. Turquoise water opens around two ascending fish, carrying the eye towards a surface fractured by reflections and descending shafts of light.

The work’s luminosity does not sit upon the scene as decoration; it appears to emanate from within it. Colour becomes atmosphere, while the contrast between the tactile reef and the near-weightlessness of the upper water produces a subtle shift between physical and psychological space. The fish occupy this threshold as quiet, elegant presences—moving from the complexity below towards an expanse that feels almost immaterial.

In Glow, light is both subject and organising force: revealing form, dissolving boundaries and transforming an underwater landscape into a meditation on emergence, movement and the instinctive pull towards illumination.

Artist Bio

Eugene’s practice reflects a lifelong affinity with nature. It’s a contemporary exploration of the wildlife in which figurative perfection dissolves into the evocation of mysterious spaces and utilizes spontaneous yet equitable range of hue. “Nature is the source of my inspiration. Everything I manifest and render is focused on harmony within her laws.”
Eugene uses most vivid colors in a vigorous application to express the uniqueness and define representation of wildlife attractiveness. Extensive knowledge of mixed media enables him to develop a most distinctive and recognizable manner that bridges the gap between the traditional academic approach and modern abstract art. His creations are not limited to any one subject or medium and demonstrate his outstanding perception and ability to focus on capturing details. “Since I started drawing I have become increasingly interested in understanding the painter’s two most fundamental tools: light and color.”
Eugene Rubuls is a widely recognized international artist who has successfully exhibited in art shows and galleries around Europe, Asia and Australia. His commissioned art work can be found in private collections all around the world.
