Quiet tides

This painting was inspired by the quiet, dreamlike atmosphere found beneath the ocean’s surface, where light softens, colour shifts, and every form seems to move with the water. I wanted to capture the sense of entering a hidden world that feels both delicate and ancient, removed from the noise and urgency of life above.

The layered coral forms and expressive textures reflect the richness of a reef ecosystem, while the two fish bring a gentle sense of movement through the composition. Soft seafoam, turquoise, and muted green tones create calm and depth, balanced by small flashes of yellow and pink that suggest life emerging throughout the reef.

Rather than depicting the underwater scene with strict realism, I approached it through memory, feeling, and movement. The painting invites the viewer to slow down and drift through the scene, discovering new details within the layers while experiencing the peaceful, immersive stillness of the ocean.

His creations are not limited to any one subject or medium and demonstrate his outstanding perception and ability to focus on capturing details. “Since I started drawing I have become increasingly interested in understanding the painter’s two most fundamental tools: light and color.”
