THE INSPIRATION
Here in rural Victoria, sulfur-crested cockatoos gather in massive flocks and seemingly hold noisy meetings atop eucalyptus trees. Their constant chatter and screech is iconic of the area.
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I started Cheeky with a loose wash of colour including crimson, cerise, grey, apricot, salmon and purple. As the composition took shape, I could see a fence post and the beginnings of tree trunks, and built on this idea with more colour including the introduction of red-brown and teal.
I had always intended to place a large cheeky bird in this painting, and so thick layering of white and yellow, with a touch of blue, were added with a heavily-laden brush.
Gum leaves, gum nuts, eucalyptus flowers and branches were all added last to give Mr Cheeky scale and something to squawk at.
The sides of this painting are painted white. This can be changed if requested (for example, soft grey would look amazing as would light pink or coral).

ABOUT THE ARTIST
I was born into a highly creative family of musicians, authors, actors and painters, and learned from a young age how to observe and appreciate nature and my environment. So, as an adult, there is no surprise I have embraced art as my full time career and passion.
Working almost exclusively in oil paint, my art is heavily influenced by the indigenous landscape, particularly of the Northern Territory, and my home in central Victoria where I live entirely off-grid on rambling bushland acreage.
CHEEKY - original oil painting by EVE SELLARS - featuring two of my favourite things; gum trees and wild birds.
