'Mala Kuća' is inspired by writings from September 2021, reminiscing time spent with family at Naval Base Shacks, WA. Mala Kuća (pronounced mah-lah koo-cha) translates to 'small house' in Croatian.
As I sat outside under a big tree, I reminisced of the smells that would waft from the shack. Meat on the coals, smoke and ocean air. I could hear the trees swaying, the bangs of the outside kitchen, words in Croatian. I feel the slow afternoons napping under the trees on those sticky plastic mattresses after swims and full bellies. I could hear Baba and Dida bickering and see them playing Bocce. I am longing to return to see Mala Kuca, the little house. The blue, little house. It's been blue all along.
