Artwork Description

Oil on canvas, stretched and ready to hang.

Signed on the front.

Gertrude Street had magnificent shadows contrasting with the sunny light, creating a frame around the magnificent architecture of the Royal Exhibition Building .
When it was built, the Great Hall was the largest building in Australia, and the highest building in Melbourne. It is the only surviving Great Hall from the 19th-century and is still used for exhibitions. The dome’s design was influenced by Brunelleschi’s 15th-century cathedral in Florence.
Framed in a black floating frame, ready to hang. Measures 66x56cm including frame.
