This little spotted pardalote visits my Melbourne garden regularly and I have been wanting to paint him for a long time.
In this painting I have brought together two sides of my practice — the abstract world of colour, loops and mark-making that defines my work, and a more observed, figurative element. The pardalote sits within a luminous green world of layered colour and looping forms, somewhere between reality and imagination.
This is the first painting where loved and observed creatures from my garden find their place within abstract colour fields.
