The moment after the realisation there is the pause and the stillness of a held breath. Of standing in the blue quiet between what you have just understood and what you are not quite ready to let go of.
This painting lives in that moment. Deep indigo at the top the weight of knowing, dense and present. And then gradually, loop by loop, the blue lightens and opens and softens downward into the palest icy white. The forms that were defined and contained at the top become looser, more open, more dissolved as they move toward the bottom.
The Pause is the second painting in three colors series. A body of work exploring emotional experience through a single colour family graduating from intensity to stillness. Each painting is one colour, one feeling, one moment in a longer human journey.
