No. 20 Runaway Bay

This is a painting of our once neighbours who moved to Queensland from Melbourne. It is one of a number depicting people and their homes. It followed a group of paintings of years earlier of the Backyard Series, looking at the suburban home and its role in our lives.

This art explores colour, form, pattern and figuration and recompose the shapes and shadows of nature and the built environment. It is based on realism with a distortion factor, canvassing aspects of the ordinary and the extraordinary and evoking a sense of the social dynamics and psychological layers of identity and place.
