Title: Docklands.
The rough, harsh and somewhat intimidating environment of a shipping dockyard is the subject of my latest work.
It contains no realistic drawings of ships, or ship containers, cranes or the light rail system, which serviced the dockyard––only a feeling of their presence through the application of the raw colours that were used to paint them. I also have used zinc strips, cut and glued, from old used oil paint tubes, to give an impression of rusting ship hulls.
All embellished within the bluish murky waters of a canal system, and brought together into a geometric abstract form.
I started work on the painting after recalling my years as an advertising art director and at the time I needed reference shots of stevedoring.
