Artwork Description

This painting has captured the iconic scenery, which was inspired by The Australian Football League in Melbourne.

As the creator of “AFL,” I’m excited to share this piece's story with collectors drawn to its energetic spirit and urban narrative. This artwork was inspired by a vivid moment I witnessed outside an Australian Football League venue—a bustling public space where diverse lives intersect. I saw a skateboarder in a bright yellow outfit weaving through the crowd, his motion a stark contrast to the static figures around him: a man in a suit, perhaps heading to a meeting, and another holding a VB (Vitoria Bitter Beer) box, possibly a fan or an officer. The AFL logo on the building and the “40” speed limit sign in the foreground captured the essence of this dynamic urban environment, blending sports culture with the everyday rhythm of city life.

I wanted to freeze that sense of movement and energy, so I used bold, contrasting colors—especially the skateboarder’s vibrant yellow against the more subdued tones of the architecture and figures—to reflect the vitality of youth and activity. The building's sharp lines and geometric shapes and signs emphasise the structure of the space. At the same time, the human figures introduce a narrative of interaction and contrast, inviting viewers to ponder the stories behind these fleeting encounters. For me, “AFL” is about celebrating the diversity of modern city life—how different lifestyles, from sports fans to professionals, coexist and collide in shared public spaces.

For collectors, “AFL” can lift a room with its infectious energy and bold palette. The bright yellows, crisp whites, and dynamic composition create a focal point that exudes optimism and modernity, while the urban scene sparks curiosity and conversation. It’s a piece that transforms any space—whether a living room, office, or gallery—into a vibrant reflection of city life’s excitement and complexity, making it a captivating addition to any collection that values contemporary art and the pulse of urban culture.

The painting is executed on linen, as noted in “Oil on linen”. Linen is a high-quality, durable fabric often used as a support for oil paintings. It is prized for its smooth texture, tight weave, and ability to hold fine detail. It provides a stable surface for the dynamic composition and vibrant color application, enhancing the artwork’s longevity and visual impact for collectors.

This piece comes with a white floating frame.
