Artwork Description

Thinking about our ancestors, this painting is dedicated to those who have lost family ties and/or cultural connections.
The tri-coloured curving bands on my painting represent the paths travelled by people trying to reconnect with lost or deprived family history, while the shapes and infill colours remind me of my ancestors country, and my own lost connections with family and culture.

Artist Bio

Uncle Greg Matthews is a contemporary Tasmanian Aboriginal artist whose vibrant canvases and unique textile designs serve as tactile ambassadors of his culture, resilience, and reclamation. As a proud Stolen Generation survivor with deep roots to his Country in Noth West Tasmania; Uncle Greg utilises his art as a powerful medium for truth-telling, healing, and reconciliation.
