Affirmation:
Friend is family by choice.
Lover is family by choice.
Partner is family by choice.
And you my dear, you are my family by choice.

-We are all different, but we make each other better. -

Galah, native to Australia, also known as the pink and grey cockatoo, is one of the most common and widespread cockatoos. There’s also a saying that Galah stands for living at the moment, due to their youthful, playful noise.

As many of you may know I don’t paint birds often, but when I do it’s normally a self-projection.

From where I live in Bayswater, there is a big field of open woodland near my studio.
The grassland is always my favourite playground, especially during the lockdown. I often accompanied by varies local birds such as cockatoos, magpies, rosellas and so on. They make a great company during the lock down for the past few months to me, they are my best friends.
Which also inspired me to paint this small size artwork in a series. Like a year book, featuring all our friends, carrying all kinds of memories.
Each bird has different appearance, different personality, and each one of them might remind you of that specific, special friend of yours. That person might be pretty, fun or even weird in a good way, and you love him/ her no matter what.
This artwork reminds me of those who care about us when we are apart, and people who stay by our side for always.

That’s why I name this small series – Family by Choice. Hope you enjoy this original series of mine.
A latest piece from my animal series -THE VOICE OF NATURE -.

Artist Bio

HSIN LIN, Award-winning Artist based in Melbourne, Australia.
In Hsin Lin’s ongoing, signature contemporary floral series that feature native and common flowers we know, flowers represent life and each different type of flower has a unique symbolic meaning.
Lin is inspired by her close observation of the natural world. Through a process of careful looking Lin is able to capture an incredible amount of intricate detail. To create the larger-scale work, Lin normally spends 6-16 months developing the intricate composition. The fine details such as the tiny petals have been developed through ten or more layers of paint. Lin describes that ‘although still-life is considered a traditional genre, each object in the paintings stands for a different meaning and has its own story. Flowers represent us as humans, vases represent the body carrying our soul, protecting us like a shield. The weaving basket stands for connections—the bonds between families, friends and all the people around us. Even if you are apart, everyone is still being linked together as a whole and we are stronger together.’ Lin’s paintings, a series of flowers in full bloom, remind us that we are alive and that life is vibrant, blossoming and full of potential.
