Affirmation: Find your peace and happiness within. Take a deep breath, smile, and start today.

From where I live in Bayswater, there is a big forest field near my studio.
My creative process normally starts with a short walk into the woods, where I touch the texture of the tree bark and feel the sunlight reflecting on the leaves and grasses.
I then collect whatever I found during the walk as inspiration.

Sometimes I find various tree leaves or bird feathers; in autumn, I have acorns, and in winter, I have wattle. There's only one rule for my collecting process: never take from the living tree/life.
I collect what has fallen only, and those are the gifts from the nature of the day for me.

There is one particular orange gum tree that I walk past every day. It’s the flowering season of the orange gum tree; on this day, I was obsessed with the delightful view of the sunlight reflected on those new growth leaves. It has become a routine of mine to paint the first bloom of the plant around my surroundings. Now, you are looking at my latest interpretation of my favourite gum tree.

CORYMBIA FICIFOLIA (BABY ORANGE), a tough Australian native plant with brilliant bright orange flowers in summertime, is common in urban areas, gardens and streetscapes.
New growth appears bronze-red then turns green, providing a beautiful contrast of colour.
Eucalyptus also has the symbolic meaning of Healing and Protection.

Flowers always bloom in their own time without competing with other flowers. May we all bloom in our time in the best season. Hope you enjoy this artwork of mine.
Artwork inspired by nature in Bayswater, Melbourne, Victoria. Summer 2026.

Artist Bio

HSIN LIN, Award-winning Artist based in Melbourne, Australia.
In Hsin Lin’s ongoing, signature contemporary floral series that feature native and common flowers we know, flowers represent life and each different type of flower has a unique symbolic meaning.
Lin is inspired by her close observation of the natural world. Through a process of careful looking Lin is able to capture an incredible amount of intricate detail. To create the larger-scale work, Lin normally spends 6-16 months developing the intricate composition. The fine details such as the tiny petals have been developed through ten or more layers of paint. Lin describes that ‘although still-life is considered a traditional genre, each object in the paintings stands for a different meaning and has its own story. Flowers represent us as humans, vases represent the body carrying our soul, protecting us like a shield. The weaving basket stands for connections—the bonds between families, friends and all the people around us. Even if you are apart, everyone is still being linked together as a whole and we are stronger together.’ Lin’s paintings, a series of flowers in full bloom, remind us that we are alive and that life is vibrant, blossoming and full of potential.
