The matriarch and a calf is a work that portrays the benevolent gentle giants. Elephants live in matriarchal herds usually led by the strongest and most experienced female in the group.
These herds mainly consist of related family members although it’s not unusual to find unrelated individuals as a part of a herd as well.
Within their groups the elephants form very strong lifelong bonds of trust and dependence, they live in a truly altruistic communal environment where care and loyalty to one another have been ingrained deeply in the fibers that have been woven into the core of their relationships for generations.
