My wife, poet Zola Gonzalez-Macarambon, goes to work in Officer (a suburb in Victoria) on Mondays. She takes the train and bus and gets there just before sunset.
Her first time there she got lost and had to walk for almost a kilometer. There was no one in sight, just a few houses and buildings and an unkindness of ravens in an immense landscape.
I have never been there but she, being a creative writer, described the place and her experience so vividly that an image formed in my mind. This image I used as inspiration for this artwork. It is a conjured image informed by Stephen King films and books, by the loneliness in Van Gogh’s vision and the co-existence of nature and man-made structures in Thiebaud’s American landscapes.
