I'm particularly drawn to the colours and textures within my environment and this painting is a part of a series inspired by a coast line I spend much time exploring - the Bass Coast in Victoria. I really love the rugged rock formations, geology and numerous beaches with plentiful rock pools. Each pool is so different, you can wander around gazing into them endlessly! So I enjoy the challenge of trying to showcase both the rough textures under your feet contrasting with the stillness of the water, and translating that on to canvas!
I try to capture subtle nuances of tone and light to describe the form and colour within my paintings, by using generous, confident marks and adequate volume of paint. Sometimes in layers or in a more immediate strokes.
This work was part of a Solo exhibtion at Art Space Gallery Wonthaggi in 2019. Other works, 'Sea Souls' and 'Curious' in my listings are also a perfect match with this artwork. It can be hung in any direction depending on your personal preference.
