This fairy penguin is part of my Australian Fauna Series which are all painted on birch wood boards. With blocks of harmonious hues and crisp lines, this painting is sure to add a pop of colour anywhere in the house or office.
I start by simplifying an image then work out how to divide the subject into interesting portions and shapes where natural features would dissect. The colours are changed many times to get just the right balance and harmony. Extra embellishing lines are added as the 'jewels' to bring it to completion. I actually find this whole process quite creative and stimulating and a lot of joy to paint!

As in all areas of my art practice, I only use artist quality materials. These wood boards are similar in style to a stretched canvas. They are extremely lightweight and ready to be hung as all sides have been painted and varnished.
