An oil painting of an old Australian gum tree and a boy playing truant, shoes off and resting his head on his school bag. The ancient river gum tree has been hollowed out over time and has been a favourite painting spot for me over the years. This country bush scene is at Woods Reserve, Gibraltar Creek in New South Wales, not far from Canberra in the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve.
It was painted in oils with a palette knife and brush for a thick textured artwork. The painting measures 26.5cm x 36.5cm tall, with a mat surround 6.5cm wide and narrow elegant wooden frame 2.5cm wide. Total size of the painting is 44.5cm x 55cm.
