The original painting was my entry for the Glover prize in 2019. The brief was a Tasmanian landscape. In recent years there has been excitement over the discovery of rare corals and marine life found in the reefs off Tasmania’s east coast. Six new coral species have also been discovered in the Tamar River estuary.
My submission ‘Soft Corals in the Tamar’ was an expression through colour, shape and texture the exhilaration and revelation of such a discovery, perhaps reflective of the landing and exploration of John Glover and his family in the Tamar River in 1831.
