Inspired by visual computer 'glitches', this painting explores the dichotomy between digital and traditional, with an electronic glitch replicated using oil paint and embroidery thread on canvas. Embroidery thread sewn in a column emulates the 'stretched image glitch' seen in digital imagery.
Jemma Cakebread is a Melbourne based artist currently working with oil painting and textiles. She drew on everything from books to walls as a kid and kept it up to adulthood, eventually completing further education in the arts against careers advice at highschool. She listens to true crime podcasts while she paints, dislikes going to her own exhibition openings and takes terrible care of her paintbrushes.
