‘The Blues’ is the embodiment of solace in times of affliction, to search the inner depths of one’s soul without speech or scene; to find the heights of love when the lows surround you. The contrite heart is subjective to this artwork, it encapsulates the hope that can be sourced amongst the grief, a sign of hope. The brushstrokes absorbing the background represent the chaos endured, juxtaposed to the floating head which remains bold in position and nonchalant. Thus, the disposition of the subject rivals to weather the storms of life and face it with a peace of mind. The floating head itself is symbolic in the chain of events, that rather than sinking in the troubles of the wind and the waves, its head remains raised above the ‘waters’. Focus is a matter of survival in the seasons of downfall and can be potent to purpose. So, seek and you will find, perhaps the hope that will be the light of your life. ‘He comforts us in our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any kind of affliction – 2 Corinthians 1:4’
