Artwork Description

Soft washes of sea green and blue move across narrow paper strips, building a calm, shifting field of colour that suggests water, horizon lines or distant landscape forms. The layered structure introduces subtle tonal variation, allowing the surface to feel fluid rather than fixed.

Across these horizontal bands, passages of black stitching punctuate the composition. These stitched sections act as graphic accents within the softer colour fields, creating moments of contrast and visual rhythm. Their irregular placement introduces a sense of movement and variation, drawing the eye slowly across the work.

Artist Bio

Jennifer Bell's artwork is an invitation into a world of colour, texture and pattern. Inspired by the rhythms and structures found throughout the natural world, she creates richly layered works that encourage viewers to slow down and discover new details over time. Working across painting, collage and textiles, her practice explores the connections between nature, perception and abstraction.

Living with the rare neurological condition Visual Snow has influenced the way Jennifer observes her surroundings, drawing her attention to movement, repetition and the layers of pattern that often go unnoticed. Through an intuitive process of painting, cutting, weaving and stitching, her work is inspired by the patterns and textures found in both the natural world and the spaces we inhabit.

Jennifer holds a degree in Fine Art and previously owned and operated a gallery in Wellington, New Zealand. Today, she works full-time from her Brisbane studio, with artworks held in private and corporate collections across Australia, New Zealand, North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Her practice ranges from small works to large scale commissions for homes, public spaces and interior projects, and her work has been selected for commercial projects internationally.
