This entity emerged out of nowhere, in the freshness of a my first small studio space in 2017. For a number of years, since dropping out of art school 2011, disillusioned and upset with injustice in the world, I had repressed and devalued my art making.
I thought, what's the point and who does it benefit?
Then as I was finally allowed to paint again, this work emerged in a matter of days.
Nurturing the Earth Within the Self, asks us to remember our origins, that we are intimately of the earth and the earth is intimately within us.
This work is a call to self love and care and features as the cover for the book "The Art of Self Compassion" by author Elizabeth McCarthy.
When we remember that we too are the mountains, rivers, trees and creatures of the earth, may we be inspired to treat ourselves, each other and the planet with greater compassion and love.
