This painting is based on the weatherboard house that belonged to Edith Dircksey Cowan, the first woman member of parliament in Australia. The house was built in 1890 in West Perth and is one of Western Australia's most important historical houses. Edith's house now sits by the lake on Joondalup campus at ECU and is a very pleasant spot for a picnic before watching a movie at the Pines movie theatre directly behind the building. This is one of two paintings I have done of Edith Cowan's House. The other is also for sale on Bluethumb.

Edith Cowan House sits on the lake at ECU campus Joondalup. The cottage is a traditional period house built in weatherboard timber. It is surrounded by trees on a manmade lake and the browns and blues of the building are reflected in the waters.

The background sky peeps through the green undergrowth while the stately trees stand in solidarity along the water's edge. Bracken, ferns and ground covers frame the blueness of the water providing peaceful reflections in the slow moving stream. It is a peaceful scene to encounter.

This artwork predominately reflects the blue and turquoise waters of Rottnest Island with Bathurst Lighthouse, rocks, sand and greenery in the background. The primary colours are turquoise, blue, yellow and brown and the ripples in the sand and water are light yellow and pale blue.
