This painting is a response to being an observer of Asher - the violin teacher, Oliver - the boy and student, and a first violin experience. Integrated into the painting are three of the boy’s drawings of violins. One from when he was 6. The other two as an eight year old. Unprompted drawings. The textured pattern in the violin’s body has been created by the artist’s unique methods. A snail rests on the boys jumper, as a silent observer - perhaps representing the viewer or artist?
Here, Asher has also offered his own first violin from a child to the boy, to have a go. It’s the boy’s first violin experience too.
