On my walks through a park close to work, I see other office workers walking, visitors taking photos of the expansive gardens, groups playing soccer. Mostly I see singles / couples / families leisurely enjoying a meal or a snack or a book or music on picnic blankets sprawled out on the green grass, and I think about what a treat it is to be able to do that in the middle of a work day :-)
So this is how this painting has come about. It's a bit tongue-in-cheek, but I do value the flexibility of hybrid working in this post-pandemic age. He might be having his lunch break (although wine in the middle of the day and in a public place is an interesting choice) or needing some time out after a difficult day. As always, there's lots of colour in this painting because I wanted to convey a sense of enjoyment in the moment. I started using more outlines in my "The Unlikely" series and brought that across as well, hoping to make some parts really pop. It's also on a larger canvas, which allowed me to paint more loosely than I normally would.
A matte varnish has been applied to this painting. (as I do for all of my paintings). I've tried my best to provide clear and accurate photos of this work, but please note that colour nuances may not be captured perfectly by digital media and vary from screen to screen.
