Joan has always had a love and appreciation for art, although she came late to the practical application of it. With a mathematical brain and a love for order and process, she naturally gravitated toward and now specialises in Nerikomi ceramics. Nerikomi, a Japanese technique for creating multiple colours of clay, inspired Joan to also draw from her childhood memories in the 1970’s to combine strong and vibrant colour combinations in her own work.
She has completed up to an Advanced Diploma level in the Visual Arts at Tafe Queensland and now resides on rural property north of Brisbane. Creating traditional Nerikomi pieces and quirky statement jewellery.
After demonstrating her skills and love for clay at the 2019 Conference in Gayndah, Joan now has a passion for teaching others.
She also likes to dabble in paint and ink techniques while waiting for clay pieces to dry. Joan is experimenting and building on her skills with the palette knife and other techniques with acrylics and alcohol inks.
